People have been loving local all this week from Orkney, Nairn and East Kilbride to Milngavie and Linlithgow. And everywhere in between.
Parliamentarians and industry leaders were out and about ‘Signing the Pledge’ during Scotland Loves Local Week and motions were announced in the corridors of power. TV celebrities were filmed working in local café’s and even 12 year-old young entrepreneurs were getting in on the loves local message.
Future market researchers were also surveying Linlithgow businesses about the effect of major events in town had on their business.
Linlithgow Independent’s Day
Local Linlithgow traders are also having their second “Linlithgow Independent’s Day” on Saturday 31 August to encourage people to visit independent businesses. Just in time for August salaries clear into our bank accounts and we work out how much we have left to spend.
And to top it all off, Low Port Music are having a pop up record Fair Sale Day in St. Michael’s Parish Church Kirk Hall from 10am.

Behind all the photo calls, smiles, activities and celebrations flooding the print and digital airwaves this week, is a serious message about supporting local businesses on our High Streets, not only this week but throughout the year.
By choosing to shop, dine, and do business locally, we’re not only supporting locally but also investing in the future of Linlithgow.
When we love local, we can create better places to live, work and visit. By loving local, we are choosing to back local businesses and build stronger communities that can respond to the cost-of-living crisis and the climate emergency. That’s what Scotland Loves Local week is all about.
As we celebrate Scotland Loves Local Week, let’s take a moment to appreciate the hardworking business owners and employees who make Linlithgow a special place. They are the ones who keep our town vibrant and welcoming, and they deserve our support not just this week, but all year round.
Scottish Government Support
The Scottish Government today made a pledge to help boost the national economy by supporting local businesses whenever it can.
Employment and Investment Minister Tom Arthur signed the Scotland Loves Local Pledge as he heard about the transformational impact of choosing local while on a visit to Paisley.
The pledge – supported by a number of local authorities and leading organisations including the Scottish Grocers’ Federation and Federation of Small Businesses in Scotland – is a commitment to prioritising local people and businesses by spending with them whenever it is possible to do so.
Mr Arthur said: “Local businesses are the bedrock of our communities and support more than 1.2 million jobs throughout Scotland, which is why I am delighted to support Scotland Loves Local Week 2024.
“Shopping locally helps to keep businesses open, people in jobs and prosperity in our villages, towns and cities.
“The Scottish Government continues to work closely with Scotland’s Towns Partnership to drive forward the Scotland Loves Local campaign, which puts localism and thriving town centres at the heart of a green, fair and growing economy.”
The pledge is being championed as part of Scotland Loves Local Week, which runs until Sunday and is shining a spotlight on both the need to support local businesses and innovative projects taking place nationally to help rejuvenate communities.
It is organised by Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP), which spearheads Scotland Loves Local with the support of the Scottish Government.
