A key role of the One Linlithgow BID team is to measure the effectiveness of the projects implemented throughout the 5-year term.
This is to ensure the best value for money is being achieved from levy funds collected from local businesses. Marketing impact is measured in several ways from how many crème eggs were given out for the Easter trail; to monitoring the number of page views on Linlithgow.co.uk; as well as the number of Views and Reach on Facebook and Instagram.
Footfall Counters
One Linlithgow is currently investigating whether footfall counters could be introduced to the High Street, therefore providing continuous monitoring of pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. This would provide valuable data for smart city planning and measuring marketing impact.

By replacing sporadic counting methods, it also ensures accurate and real-time insights into traffic patterns and street usage. The information can be used to benchmark marketing impact efforts with the number of people who also visit the High Street.
As part of One Linlithgow’s longer-term strategy, these additional tools will help to compare all the footfall and traffic through Linlithgow before Decriminalised Parking Enforcement (DPE) is implemented in 2027.
This benchmarking will allow detailed and measurable insights to be reported on and aligned with the marketing impact of any changes to the current arrangements.
Marketing Impact – Google Analytics

Over the last year, the 1,200+ pages on Linlithgow.co.uk website has generated over 69,000 page views. The most popular pages for website traffic have been the webcam, events, news and the many individual pages for businesses in the business directory.
This is a growing trend as organic Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) takes hold over time, with well-structured content that ‘Google Crawling’ and indexing likes. Furthermore, this approach helps a web site rank in search results over time.

Marketing Impact – Social Media Views and Reach
Many business owners are aware of the lady who comes to visit to find out what they are doing and take photos of their business. The lady is Katie Llewellin, who has been making weekly visits to generate real local content manually, with real photos and real stories. Fake news is not welcome here in Linlithgow.
Over 90 days, her efforts have had a marketing impact of over half a million views with a reach of almost 93,000 people on Facebook.
